Planning- Text

The only text my group and I have planned to use is at the introduction of the song to show the name of the artist. An example of the style of the text would be similar to the text in Two Door Cinema Club used in I Can Talk. This text was yellow and bold; the yellow helped the text stand out and the bold helped catch people attention. Apart from that we haven’t considered to use text in our music video. Although I have some ideas were we could include text.
An idea is to use text during the narrative part of our music video. When listening to the song, we came to a conclusion that it was about a man who is smoking outside a cinema when he is approached by the girl he has liked for a while. While they’re smoking outside, he is trying to make her realise how much he likes her.
During the narrative part, text can be used to show the conversation. As the audience can’t hear what they are saying, it might be useful to include subtitles. The text in this scene will help to explain the narrative of the song better than it would without it; this may leave the audience more satisfied as they wouldn’t have to piece more than they have to about what’s happening.
An example of the style of the text which we would consider to use in the narrative shot would be similar to the text in Two Door Cinema Club used in I Can Talk. This text was yellow and bold; the yellow helped the text stand out and the bold helped catch people attention. We could use this text during the narrative as it worked well I their music video amongst their Indie audience and so by us using it in our video, it could also be successful. Using the same text throughout our music video will help with the low o our video and make all the shots blend in better.

  2. Tolu, you have considered continuity of style with regards to your use of text and how that can impact on the overall effect of the video. Your research shows that you have conformed to the conventions of the genre and your ideas behind your text also consider connotaions and effect. Well planned.
